The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against the State of Texas for installing a floating barrier in the Rio Grande, aiming to stop migrants from crossing into the U.S. from Mexico.

The DOJ had earlier warned the state it would do so if Texas set up the buoys.

The government argues that the state violated the River and Harbors Act, unlawfully installing barriers without federal approval, and demands their removal as it has caused diplomatic and humanitarian issues.

In response to the legal warning
Texas Governor Greg Abbott refused to remove the 1,000-foot interlocking buoys, choosing to defend the action in court instead.

Governor Abbott further says the action is necessary, accusing President Joe Biden of failing to address the ongoing immigration crisis.

Texas authorities initiated setting up a string of Buoy in the middle of the river near Eagle Pass as a part of Operation Lone Star.
