Minnesota police arrested 57-year-old Vance Boelter on Sunday after a two-day manhunt on suspicion of killing State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband at their house.

Before he killed the Hortmans, the suspect had shot Senator John Hoffman and his wife at their home multiple times.

Boelter had impersonated a police officer during the attacks. He fled Hortman’s house but left behind a roughly 70-page manifesto in a vehicle with names of potential targets, many of whom support abortion rights.

Authorities charged Boelter with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Governor Tim Walz said Boelter’s actions have shaken the state. The victims were influential lawmakers recognized for their contributions to social policy reforms.
