Leaders of Russia and India, along with over 15 other foreign heads, were invited by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit to demonstrate their cooperation, a display aimed in part at President Donald Trump.
India and China have had a troubled relationship, which the US has taken note of and has been wooing India for years to counter Chinese influence in the Asian subcontinent.
However, after the US imposed a 50% tariff on India for its purchase of Russian oil, the relationship between New Delhi and Shanghai appears to be improving.
