The vote came after three months of US-Iran conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route

The House of Representatives delivered a rare setback to President Donald Trump on Wednesday by approving a Democratic-led resolution opposing his conflict with Iran.

The measure passed 215-208, with four Republicans joining Democrats in support. It marks the first successful House passage of a war powers resolution on Iran after several failed attempts earlier this year. Democrats said the result reflects increasing public and political opposition to the conflict.

The resolution calls on Trump to withdraw US forces from hostilities with Iran unless Congress formally declares war or authorizes military action.

While the measure does not legally force the president to end the Iran war, it signals growing congressional concern over the Middle East tensions.

The House also voted 218-204 to advance legislation providing aid to Ukraine, setting up a final vote. Supporters said the measure demonstrates continued bipartisan backing for Ukraine’s fight against Russia despite resistance from Republican leadership and the White House.

The vote came after three months of US-Iran conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route that handles roughly 20% of the world’s oil and LNG supply. The disruption has raised concerns about energy markets, inflation, and global economic stability.
