Iran sets Hormuz demands as Trump stays ‘low-key’

President Donald Trump’s efforts to restore access through the Strait of Hormuz hit a major roadblock Saturday, as Iran’s Supreme National Security Council laid out strict terms to reopen the vital waterway.

Tehran’s extensive demands include the US ending its naval blockade and withdrawing all military assets from the region, lifting existing sanctions, unfreezing Iranian assets, and paying war damage compensation.

Following Iran’s demands, Trump told Axios over a phone call on Sunday that the US is taking a low-key approach to Iran, adding that it is only “semi-negotiating” while watching the country struggle with inflation and a lack of money.
