China is finalizing a $16 billion merger between state-run shipbuilders China State Shipbuilding (CSSC) and China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), creating the world’s largest shipbuilder.
The combined company will control about 17% of the global market, with an order book exceeding 530 vessels and annual revenue near $18 billion.
Analysts say the merger strengthens China’s commercial and naval shipbuilding integration, advancing its military-civil fusion strategy.
The move comes as US shipbuilding lags and President Donald Trump’s push to revive the industry faces setbacks.
