The conclave began in the Vatican yesterday to elect the next pope.

The cardinals had the first round of voting, but black smoke billowing from the Sistine Chapel Wednesday evening indicated a two-thirds majority was not reached to elect a new pope.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle are the frontrunners, as most cardinals know them.

The voting is a secret ballot, and a white smoke billowing from the chapel would mean there’s a new pope.
