New data on gun violence in the country says January 2023 witnessed the highest number of mass shootings in the past decade—39 shootings in just 24 days.

Just as the country sends its condolences to California, reeling from multiple mass shootings this week, data in the Gun Violence archive shows 70 people have died and 167 wounded so far in 2023.

The number of mass shootings and victims has surpassed the number of calendar days this month.
