Publix recalled frozen blueberries last month over potential E. coli contamination

The Food and Drug Administration has designated the recall of GreenWise frozen blueberries, sold at Publix grocery stores, as “Class 1,” its most serious category.

The FDA said there is a “reasonable probability” the berries could cause serious illness or death.

The grocery chain recalled the products last month over potential E. coli contamination, but some packages don’t expire until 2028, meaning they may still be in people’s homes.

The berries were distributed to stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

The recall is the latest in a string of US food safety alerts this year, including salmonella-linked jalapenos and cyclospora-linked iceberg lettuce.
