Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito has denied claims that he leaked the Dobbs v. Jackson draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Friday, Justice Alito said the decision he wrote removing the federal right to abortion made him and other SCOTUS justices “targets of assassination.”

He added that the majority, thought to have approved his draft opinion, were really the targets.  “It was rational for people to believe they might be able to stop the decision in Dobbs by killing one of us,” he pointed out.

Draft leak
Alito wrote the ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson, the Mississippi case that overturned Roe v. Wade, which established the right to abortion in 1973.

Alito’s draft ruling was leaked to Politico last May resulting in nationwide protests. The final ruling was on June 24.

But on June 8, an armed 26-year-old was arrested outside the home of conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was one of six conservatives with Alito on the nine-justice court.
