A New York jury on Tuesday found that Donald Trump sexually abused writer E. Jean Carroll in a department store dressing room in 1996. The jury did not find that Trump raped her.

Trump was ordered to pay $5 million for battery and defamation—$2 million on the sexual abuse count and close to $3m for defaming and branding Carroll a liar.

He called the trial “very unfair” and plans to appeal the verdict. Trump maintains that he doesn’t know who Carroll is.

It is the first verdict that legally brands a former US President as a sexual predator. Now, Trump faces mounting legal danger, in his 2024 presidential candidature.
