SCOTUS Justices seem likely to allow access to mifepristone

Both liberal and conservative justices of the Supreme Court seemed inclined to preserve access to the common abortion pill mifepristone.

SCOTUS justices heard oral arguments yesterday in a lawsuit brought by anti-abortion doctors alleging that the FDA unlawfully loosened regulations for the abortion pill. 

They also challenged the body’s decisions that expanded access to the drug despite the authority’s repeated affirmations of its safety.

Concerns were raised about potential nationwide impacts if the lawsuit succeeds.

Justices also questioned if organizations had legal grounds to challenge FDA regulations.

The ruling, expected by June end or July, could impact abortion access nationwide, and abortion providers are preparing alternative protocols if mifepristone access is restricted.
