The Supreme Court is set to close its current term Friday, with six high-stakes cases left to decide, including a key one involving President Donald Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship.

The legal tussle is widely observed due to its potential impact on the constitutional guarantee of citizenship under the 14th Amendment, which states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.”

Other rulings expected today address key issues, including voting rights, religious freedoms, and healthcare access.

In a separate case on Thursday, the court, in a 6–3 decision, ruled that patients cannot sue states for removing Planned Parenthood from Medicaid programs, making it easier for conservative states to defund the organization.

Justice Neil Gorsuch, writing for the majority, said such matters fall under public policy and should be addressed by Congress. 

The three liberal justices dissented, warning the ruling strips Medicaid patients of their ability to choose qualified providers and could cause real harm.
