Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted in Virginia yesterday on charges of making false statements to Congress and obstructing its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The charges relate to his 2020 testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he said he did not authorize an anonymous FBI source for the Trump-Russia probe.

The indictment follows public pressure from President Donald Trump, who called for prosecutions against Comey and other political opponents.

Trump also replaced the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia with Lindsey Halligan, a former White House aide, to pursue the case.

Critics view the case as politically charged, while Department of Justice (DOJ) officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, stress that no one is above the law.
