A 12-year-old transgender girl from West Virginia (WV) won a Supreme Court case Thursday, allowing her to compete with other girls in her middle school’s sports teams.

Becky Pepper-Jackson can continue on her school’s track and cross-country teams for girls.

West Virginia (WV) is one of the 20 states to ban transgender students from participating in sports consistent with their gender identity.

WV lawmakers adopted a law called Save Women’s Sports Act in 2021, which bans boys from competing in girls teams in public schools. The state considers a biological male as a boy/man even if they identify as a girl/woman.

A lawsuit on the ban is ongoing.

Just last month, transgender women athletes were banned from competing in female track and field international events.
