Donald Trump petitioned the Supreme Court to halt a lower-court ruling that permitted his potential criminal prosecution over efforts to overturn the 2020 election on Monday.

His lawyers argue that presidents have immunity and warn that such trials would disrupt governance and Trump’s campaigns for the upcoming election.

Not the first
Yesterday’s request was Trump’s second appeal to the Supreme Court within a week regarding legal matters impacting his political prospects.

With a total of 91 counts spread across four different indictments, Trump is embroiled in legal battles on multiple fronts, including federal charges in Florida for mishandling classified documents.

Meanwhile, separate hearings in Georgia address allegations of misconduct related to the 2020 election, to which Trump vehemently denies any wrongdoing.
