Budget-friendly Disney+ Basic is here, with ads|@disneyplus|via Giphy

Competing with its rival Netflix the streaming giant Disney+ launched an ad-supported plan, for $7.99 a month, called Disney+ Basic on Thursday.

Its ad-free subscription, Disney+ Premium, will now cost $10.99 a month instead of $7.99. Netflix's Basic with Ads plan is $6.99.

Disney+ Basic vs Netflix Basic with Ads
Agreed that Netflix’s ad-supported plan is one dollar less. But Disney+ is trying to reel in more subscribers by giving high-quality video streaming, simultaneous streaming for up to four devices, and a full content catalog in its basic plan.

Netflix only provides 720p HD video quality and one device streaming in its basic plan. Plus, 5% to 10% of its content is missing due to licensing restrictions.

Looks like Disney+ is not holding back. The streaming platform aims to reach 230-260 million subscribers by 2024.

More streaming services are leaning toward ads
Many other streaming services like HBO Max, Hulu, Peacock, Paramount+, and Discovery+ have turned towards ad-supported plans. This is mainly due to their current struggle of attracting new subscribers.

At present, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Showtime don't have ad-supported plans.
