Things got personal between Drake and Kendrick Lamar over the weekend when the two biggest names in hip-hop released a series of diss tracks aimed at each other.

According to experts decoding the music, Drake’s track “Family Matters” was the first to get personal, delving into Lamar’s relationship with his fiancee, creative partner Dave Free, and even suggesting one of his children may not be his own.

Drake even suggested that the recent cease and desist he received for using AI-generated vocals of Tupac Shakur in his “Taylor Made Freestyle” had Lamar behind it, who encouraged Tupac’s estate to demand Drake take down the song.

Lamar’s response, “Meet the Grahams,” hits back at Drake’s family, including his son, mother and father, and implies Drake has a daughter he hasn’t publicly acknowledged.

The feud began with Lamar’s diss track “Like That” and has since involved other artists like the Weeknd, Future, J. Cole, Rick Ross and Metro Boomin.

While diss tracks are common in the rap industry, none have taken social media by storm recently as Drake vs Lamar has.

The moment shows the role social media plays and the way rappers handle beef, and how their fans fuel the drama.

Music experts believe diss tracks will become more common in the years to come. The songs fuel fan fascination, adding to the artists’ attention—which means more streams.
