James Talarico defeated Rep. Jasmine Crockett in Texas’s closely watched Democratic Senate primary, giving Democrats new hope in a state they haven’t won statewide in decades.

Talarico became the Democratic Senate nominee for the November election.

On the Republican side, Sen. John Cornyn and AG Ken Paxton will face a May runoff, with the winner challenging Talarico in a key midterm race.

Democrat Roy Cooper and Republican Michael Whatley won their primaries in North Carolina.
