The Senate reached a deal Thursday to avoid a government shutdown. Lawmakers passed five spending bills to fund most federal agencies, while a separate funding measure was introduced for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Instead of a long-term plan, they chose a short-term funding bill that will keep DHS running until February 13.
The current resolution expires today.
The Senate will likely vote on the deal at 11 a.m. ET.
President Donald Trump supported the agreement and called for bipartisan cooperation. However, the House will not return until Monday, raising the chance of a brief shutdown.
Lawmakers still must finalize DHS funding as debates continue over border enforcement and accountability.
