A congressional notice on Tuesday reveals that two federal officers—one from Border Patrol and another from Customs and Border Protection (CBP)—fired their service pistols during an encounter that killed ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.

Officers attempted to take Pretti into custody, and during a struggle, one agent shouted that he had a gun. Both officers then fired their weapons.

The incident is under review by CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility, and body-worn camera footage is being analyzed.

The situation in Minneapolis remains tense as the fatal shooting has ignited protests and national scrutiny. Residents and activists have staged demonstrations, and local leaders have criticized federal immigration enforcement tactics.

President Donald Trump has dispatched border czar Tom Homan to Minnesota to oversee the immigration crackdown. He framed it as an effort to de-escalate the situation.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that ICE agents will travel with the US delegation to next month’s Winter Olympics in Milan to help vet and mitigate threats from transnational criminal organizations.
