The board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, appointed by Trump, voted to shutter its main building, the AP reported.
The vote came hours after a judge ruled that the board could not name the building or campus after the president. The judge stated, “Simply put, Defendants cannot install memorials for President Trump or anyone or anything else at the Kennedy Center without Congress’s blessing.”
Trump stressed that the renovation project cannot begin until the board’s proposed naming changes are approved. He also said he deposited $17 million into the Kennedy Center account to keep it afloat.
Last year, the Trump-chaired board placed the president’s name on the building’s facade, only to be ordered to remove it.
