New York Attorney General Letitia James has been indicted on federal charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution.

James, who brought a civil fraud case against President Donald Trump in 2024, was accused of misleading a bank to secure favorable loan terms, claiming a property would be a residence when it was allegedly rented out.

The indictment was announced by newly appointed US Attorney Lindsey Halligan, who replaced a predecessor reportedly hesitant to bring charges due to insufficient evidence.

Sources say a five-month investigation found no clear proof of wrongdoing by James. She called the charges politically motivated, accusing Trump of weaponizing the justice system.

The move comes shortly after a similar indictment against former FBI Director James Comey.
