The Respect for Marriage Act that protects same-sex and interracial marriages heads to President Joe Biden’s desk for his signature after the House gave its final approval Thursday.

The bill that gives same-sex and interracial marriages federal protection received support from all Democrats and 39 Republicans.

Presiding over the vote before she hands over the reins to New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “We need it.”
