After reportedly forging his background details, Rep. George Santos has refused to resign|via Twitter

First-term Republican George Santos refused to resign despite pressure from his party and said he will only resign if the 142,000 people who voted for him don't want him anymore.

The New York congressman reportedly lied in his resume about degrees from New York University and Baruch College. Santos has also fabricated his work experience at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup.

Amid mounting pressure from the GOP and his co-representatives in NY, Santos initially said that he would resign if 142 people asked him to. But he later explained in a podcast that he was elected by 142,000 people and would step aside if all of them didn't want him.

Online petitions are going around for people to sign and support his resignation.
