The lawsuit asks the Court of International Trade to declare President Donald Trump’s tariffs illegal and order refunds

New York Attorney General Letitia James and prosecutors from 23 states sued Thursday to block President Donald Trump’s new global tariffs, days after the Supreme Court struck down his earlier effort.

The lawsuit asks the Court of International Trade to declare the tariffs illegal and order refunds. Trump imposed the duties under a different law after the court invalidated most of his “Liberation Day” tariffs.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the new tariffs will take effect this week and could return to previous levels by August under a different legal authority.

The lawsuit comes a day after a judge ruled companies are owed refunds.
