Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky increased his call for support from world leaders against Russian aggression in his speech at the annual United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York yesterday.

In his 15-minute first in-person UNGA speech since Russia’s 2022 invasion, Zelensky accused Moscow of committing genocide, terrorism and kidnapping Ukrainian children.

Sensing the waning international interest and support for Kyiv in the Russia-Ukraine war, which is nearing its 19th month now, he warned leaders they could be the next victim of a Russian invasion.

President Joe Biden echoed Zelensky’s plea, urging more countries to support Ukraine.

Nations like India, China and Saudi Arabia have maintained a neutral stand in the war and benefitted from cheaper oil, gas, fertilizer and grain exports from Russia. All their leaders were absent from the UNGA meeting.
