A box truck-sized asteroid called 2023 BU zipped past the Earth last night. It was one of the closest passes of the planet ever recorded.

The asteroid passed the Earth just 2,200 miles above the surface, near Chile, and was within the orbit of several satellites.

The asteroid, which was detected just last week by an amateur astronomer from Crimea posed no threat, per NASA. The close shave illustrated how many undetected asteroids lurked near our planet.
