The NBA’s board of governors unanimously approved the sale of the Boston Celtics to a group led by private equity mogul Bill Chisholm, valuing the franchise at $6.1 billion.
The deal, expected to close soon, gives Chisholm at least 51% ownership, with full control by 2028, potentially raising the value to $7.3 billion.
It marks the highest price ever for a US professional sports team, surpassing the $6.05 billion sale of the NFL’s Washington Commanders in 2023.
Chisholm, a Massachusetts native and managing partner of Symphony Technology Group, joins co-owners Rob Hale and Bruce Beal Jr.
