The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has updated its eligibility rules, banning transgender women from competing in women’s sports, aligning with President Donald Trump’s executive order.
The USOPC stated that the change aims to protect opportunities for women athletes. The new rule outlined under “Athlete Safety Policy” doesn’t mention the word “transgender” but stresses a fair and safe competition environment under Executive Order 14201.
According to The New York Times, all 54 national sports governing bodies must now comply with the updated policy.
USA Fencing has already revised its own policy: transgender women will be allowed to compete only in men’s categories starting August 1.
