The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has dismissed Google's appeal, upholding a $4.67 billion antitrust fine over anti-competitive practices.
The legal battle began in 2018, when the European Commission initially imposed a higher penalty on Google, which it later reduced.
The Commission ruled that Google had abused Android’s mobile market dominance by securing pre-installation deals with smartphone manufacturers to give its own apps an unfair advantage.
In another legal blow, a Swedish court has ordered Google to pay approximately $1.5 billion in damages to the Klarna-owned PriceRunner, a price comparison platform.
PriceRunner filed a lawsuit in 2022 alleging that the tech giant manipulated search results to favor its own shopping service. With accrued interest, the total award reaches $1.97 billion, says Klarna.
