Social media giant Meta announced a massive expansion of its data center site in Louisiana, increasing the total investment to $50 billion.

The expansion will increase the site's computing capacity from 2 gigawatts to 5 gigawatts, enabling the company to train larger and more advanced artificial intelligence models.

Since construction began in December 2024, Meta has awarded more than $1.6 billion in contracts to local businesses. The company also plans to invest an additional $1 billion in infrastructure projects, including roads and water systems, to support the development.

Meta currently operates or is building 32 data centers worldwide, including 28 in the United States. The company has also committed to investing $600 billion in domestic infrastructure and job creation over the next three years.
