Artificial intelligence chipmaker Nvidia has committed up to $105 billion to finance a new massive AI data center in Ohio for ChatGPT maker OpenAI.
According to a regulatory filing, SB Energy will build and manage the facility under a 20-year lease. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is also an investor in the company.
Nvidia is separately investing $1.5 billion directly into SB Energy.
The data center will initially power 4.25 gigawatts of computing capacity and is expected to roll out in phases starting in 2028.
Critics worry that such circular AI deals, where chip manufacturers supply both the money and the compute power to their clients, could be risky.
