OpenAI is ending its contract with Cursor after Elon Musk’s SpaceX acquired the coding startup for $60 billion.
Developers’ access to OpenAI’s models through Cursor will mostly end on November 12.
Cursor CEO Michael Truell said OpenAI models account for about 5% of platform traffic. He said the companies are discussing the decision.
OpenAI said it cannot guarantee that SpaceX will use its technology within its terms of service.
The Musk-Altman feud
The decision adds another chapter to the bitter dispute between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Musk sued OpenAI in 2024, arguing that the company abandoned its original nonprofit mission. He co-founded the AI startup in 2015 but exited it shortly after.
Although he lost the case earlier this year, he has vowed to appeal.
The move also highlights growing tensions around AI coding tools, as companies compete to control access to increasingly powerful models.
