Snapchat parent Snap unveiled its long-awaited AR glasses on Tuesday, entering the highly competitive wearables market, which Meta, Apple, Google, and others dominate.

Named Specs, the glasses combine augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI), allowing users to browse the internet, watch videos, and interpret the world in real time using hand and voice controls.

Developers can build Lenses for Specs using Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex, and Cursor.

The smart glasses are priced at $2,195 for pre-orders and are significantly higher than Meta’s Ray-Ban, which costs between $200 and $500, and Quest VR headsets, which cost between $300 and $600.

While CEO Evan Spiegel remains optimistic, Wall Street is pressuring Snap to focus on its core ads business rather than hardware costs.

The launch comes as Google and Warby Parker also plan to enter the smart glasses market this fall.
