This year’s WWDC will be Tim Cook’s last as CEO|Mike Deerkoski|CC BY 2.0

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will begin at 10 a.m. PT today. It will be the last event Tim Cook leads as CEO, with a lingering question of whether Apple can deliver on the AI vision it unveiled two years ago.

The Apple Intelligence tool debuted in 2024, but it still lags behind advanced models like ChatGPT and Claude.

As competitors poured billions into AI, Cook stayed cautious. That changed after Apple Intelligence struggled, prompting him to become more directly engaged in the company’s AI push.

Two years back, Apple even announced plans to give Siri, its long-criticized voice assistant, a major AI upgrade.

And now, after months of delays, Apple’s revamped Siri is finally expected to arrive. Bloomberg says it will be powered by Gemini, gain a dedicated chatbot app, and handle more complex tasks across Apple’s ecosystem.

The WWDC will also offer software updates for iPhones, Macs, and Apple Watches later this year. There may be clues about future hardware, like the iPhone 18 and the rumored iPhone Fold.

The event will serve as a major tribute to outgoing Cook before officially handing over the reins of the tech giant to John Ternus in September.
