No more washing dishes? Airbnb eases check-out rules

Your vacation rental checkout could soon get easier, with fewer chores and no surprise demands.

Starting November 20, Airbnb will restrict hosts from requiring time-consuming tasks such as stripping beds, washing dishes, or taking rubbish off-site.

Hosts must disclose all house rules before booking and cannot add new demands later.

The global policy also prohibits restricting advertised amenities or imposing penalties, with limited exceptions, such as conserving water during drought.

Airbnb’s change comes after several guests complained that hosts have excessive house rules and cleanup inspections, even after paying a cleaning fee.
