TSA allows non-flyers gate access for first time since 9/11

The Transportation Security Administration has launched the Gateside by TSA PreCheck program at 13 airports, allowing non-passengers access to gate areas to send off and meet family and friends.

The initiative brings back a pre-9/11 air travel tradition that ended after the September 11 attacks 25 years ago.

Participating airports include major international hubs in Los Angeles, Dallas, Las Vegas, and Salt Lake City.

The free program is available to eligible TSA PreCheck members and other trusted-traveler program participants with a Known Traveler Number.

Visitors must apply online one to three days before their planned visit. Once approved, they can enter the airport by presenting their pass and a valid ID. 

Each pass is valid for one calendar day and allows multiple entries and reentries that day.
