Workers are taking longer vacations this year

More Americans are traveling now, a trend that was seen last summer. Recent Labor Department data suggests an increased number of working adults took vacations in the first half of 2023 than in pre-pandemic years.

It’s vacay time
Tracking time-off requests of more than 300,000 in small and medium-sized businesses showed workers are taking longer vacations this year, per human-resources technology firm Gusto.

Even companies are encouraging workers to take longer holidays. Some companies like gig work marketplace TaskRabbit and travel agency Priceline are mandating paid-time offs.

These findings suggest that American workers have finally learned to stop worrying and start taking those vacations they have long dreamed of.

Did you know
According to federal data, a typical American working for more than five years gets between 15 and 24 paid days off every year. This is much lower than European countries, which are required to give at least 20 days every year.

Looks like the looming recession, inflated prices, and scorching summer filled with deadly heat waves aren’t stopping Americans from vacationing.
