Amtrak officially launched its new high-speed NextGen Acela with an inaugural trip from Washington, DC, to New York City this week.

The sleek train, capable of reaching 160 mph, offers more seating, wider ergonomic chairs, extra legroom, individual power outlets, and free 5G Wi-Fi.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the fleet will create better pricing and a better travel experience.

Amtrak plans to roll out 28 trains by 2027, expanding weekday and weekend service across the Northeast Corridor from Washington to Boston.

However, the new trains run three to seven minutes slower on the Washington–New York route until infrastructure upgrades are completed.

Ticket prices vary widely, ranging from about $100 to over $500 depending on the route and date.
