Amtrak reported a 5% jump in ridership and a 10% increase in revenue over the past year, showing steady growth despite political challenges.

The Trump administration asked CEO Stephen Gardner to resign in March. Acting CEO Roger Harris said the rail agency improved service while continuing long-term upgrades supported by federal funding under former President Joe Biden.

Amtrak launched new Acela trains in August and restored service between New Orleans and Mobile, Alabama, after 20 years, with several routes selling out on weekends.

Harris said demand remains strong, especially on Northeast routes.

Although Amtrak still operates at a loss, the deficit dropped to under $600 million in fiscal year 2025, from more than $700 million the previous year.
