EV sales in North America also fell 9%, lagging behind global markets for the first time

Sales of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles surged 24% in June and hit 1.8 million units worldwide, while they dropped 1% in America, according to Rho Motion.

EV sales in North America also fell 9%, lagging behind global markets for the first time.

The US slowdown in EV sales is attributed to President Donald Trump’s recent spending bill accelerating the phase-out of EV tax credits.

Additionally, a 25% import tariff is making automakers rethink their 2025 plans for the US market—the world’s second biggest for cars.

Meanwhile, China’s EV sales grew 28%  and Europe followed with a 23% increase. Incentives in Germany and Spain, and the rise of budget EVs from BYD, are expected to keep Europe’s momentum strong through the rest of the year.
