Amazon’s Zoox has launched its robotaxi service in Las Vegas, making its autonomous vehicles available to the public for the first time.

The company says it is the first to deploy purpose-built robotaxis in active service.

Riders can book free trips through the Zoox app, with pickups and drop-offs limited to key destinations like Resort World, AREA15, Topgolf, New York-New York, and the Luxor.

Zoox plans to expand to more stops as regulators review its application to charge fares.

The toaster-shaped vehicles operate without pedals or steering wheels, using sensors such as cameras, lidar, and radar to navigate. Each robotaxi seats passengers on facing benches and travels up to 45 mph.

Zoox plans to deploy 50 vehicles across Las Vegas and San Francisco, while also testing in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Austin.
