President Donald Trump said the nuclear testing will start immediately|@WhiteHouse|X

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that the US will resume nuclear weapons testing for the first time since 1992, a move that could spark a renewed arms race among global powers.

The surprise declaration came just an hour before he met Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Trump said on Truth Social that the US has “more Nuclear Weapons than any other country,” and that testing will begin immediately.

He claimed Russia ranks second and China third, though no recent reports confirm either nation has resumed full-scale testing.

The US signed but never ratified the 1996 Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, which aims to prevent global nuclear proliferation.

Experts warn that ending the moratorium could heighten tensions with China and Russia.
