We just had the highest-grossing opening weekend of 2024. The sci-fi movie Dune: Part Two revived Hollywood box office collections over the weekend, bringing in $81.5 million in ticket sales in North America and $178.5 million globally.

IMAX in particular, experienced record-breaking success, with its screens accounting for 22.7% of ticket sales; it generated $18.5 million in box office gross.

The stellar opening collection is a stark contrast to the film’s first installment, Dune, which opened with $41 million in October 2021.

The adaptation of the iconic 1965 novel by Frank Herbert also stands out as the biggest opening for stars Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson and Austin Butler, as well as director Denis Villeneuve’s highest-grossing movie.

Additionally, films like Bob Marley: One Love and Ordinary Angels contributed to the weekend’s success. Meanwhile, Madame Web saw a slower start despite its association with the Spider-Man universe.
