The casting process for the next James Bond has officially begun. It would hopefully end the five-year drought since Daniel Craig’s final 007 film, No Time To Die.
Notably, this time, Amazon will be the decision maker since it gained creative control of the James Bond franchise in 2022, when it bought MGM for $8.5 billion.
Members of the Broccoli family owned IP rights to the world-famous secret agent character since the first Bond film in the 1960s. Now, Amazon MGM Studios co-owns it.
The studio confirmed casting director Nina Gold is leading the search. The successful candidate will become the seventh official actor to portray James Bond since the franchise began 64 years ago.
The financial stakes are incredibly high
Over the last 6 decades, the Bond films have raked in about $6 billion at the domestic box office.
Denis Villeneuve, director of Arrival, Sicario, and the Dune films, is set to direct, while Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight handles the script.
Potential candidates include Callum Turner (36), Jacob Elordi (28), Harris Dickinson (29), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (35), Theo James (41), and Henry Cavill (43).
