‘The Odyssey’ has Matt Damon playing Odysseus|@odysseymovie|X
In a historic first for cinema, tickets for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey went on sale today, a full year before its release.
But there is a caveat. The tickets sold are only for movie theaters with Imax 70mm screens. Other screens are expected to open sales near 17 July 2026; however, there is no confirmation on it.
The move is seen as a good marketing tactic from distributor Universal Pictures, especially considering Nolan’s 2023 film Oppenheimer made over $190 million globally from Imax screens. That is ~20% of its total global gross of $975.8 million.
The Odyssey has Matt Damon playing Odysseus and several A-listers in other roles, including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron.
