Currently in its early production stages, the LOTR game will be based on the fictional world of Middle-earth

Amazon and Embracer Group reached a deal to develop a new massively multiplayer online (MMO) game based on author JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.

Currently in its early production stages, the game—available for PC and consoles—will be based on the fictional world of Middle-earth. Amazon will reveal the launch date at a later time.

Embracer, a Swedish game developer, owns the IP rights to LOTR and The Hobbit novels.

EA recently launched a LOTR-based mobile game called “Heroes of Middle-earth” while another game called “Gollum” is due this year. The special effects studio behind the LOTR movies is also making a game based on the fictional world of Tolkien.
