Move over, Gen Z—Gen Alpha is making waves with Grow a Garden, a Roblox-based farm simulation game that recently crossed 16.4 million active players. That’s more than the top five Steam games combined.
About 35% of the game’s massive user base is under 13, and it's rapidly gaining traction on TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Its appeal? Simple, slow-paced gameplay reminiscent of Zynga’s FarmVille, which became a sensation in 2009.
Players cultivate magical plants and pets, trade using in-game currency, and chase rare weekly drops. The game’s addictive mechanics have led some users to spend over $100 on eBay for rare digital flora.
Originally developed by a solo creator, Grow a Garden was acquired by Splitting Point Studios in April—when it had just 2,000 concurrent users. Since then, it has exploded in popularity.
“It popped out of nowhere,” says KreekCraft, a well-known Roblox YouTuber. The game’s meteoric rise has stunned both players and developers alike.
