The country witnessed the worst avian flu outbreak this year that wiped out 50.54 million birds, per the US Department of Agriculture, and the effects were seen during Thanksgiving.

Turkey was 20% more expensive than last year.

The 2022 flu outbreak is being considered the worst US animal health disaster to date as the numbers have surpassed the 2015 avian flu outbreak—which resulted in the death of 50.5 million birds.
